The Vermont Median Park Vision Plan and Feasibility Study is a project by AHBE Landscape Architects in conjunction with the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and the Community of South Los Angeles. The project began with a feasibility study along Vermont Avenue, where one and a half miles of streetscape were analyzed for potential reconfiguration. Subsequent studies were performed to evaluate how the existing roadway could re-retrofitted into a 90 ft wide linear park. AHBE’s design solution consists in a new park/dedicated open space that accommodates a variety of systems such as multiuse pathways (pedestrian + bike lanes), biofiltration systems, a destination habitat corridor, and urban farming plots….
While serving its primary role as a water management and green infrastructure machine, the reconfigured Vermont Ave. also serves as an open space connector that brings people together. The Vermont Median Park Vision Plan received an HONOR AWARD from the American Society of Landscape Architects Southern California Chapter (ASLA/SC) in 2010.
